Encourage Imaginative Play In Kids With A Table And Chairs Of
Their Own
For many years, children have enjoyed sitting and playing at their own
kids table and chairs that are just their size. Sometimes they are used as
their own dining spot and for others it is a great place to express their artistic side without having to sit at
a full-sized table and chairs on their knees.
Many a tea party has been given with the indoor or outdoor dining set. Stuffed
animals and dolls are usually at the top of the guest list while dress-up is optional. Old-fashioned tea sets and
newer versions in plastic are a great accessory for any dining table.
One of the great things about using these small versions of our own furniture is
that they are so versatile. They give your child the ideal spot that is the right size for them. The more
comfortable they are, the more likely they are to stay focused on what they are doing for a longer period of
time.
How To Choose The Right Kids’ Table And Chairs For Your Child’s
Needs
Choosing from the many different types of kids
table and chairs available can be confusing. There are literally thousands of different ones available in all
styles, colors, and materials. To help you purchase the right one for your child, there are some tips to keep in
mind.
-
Kids tables and chairs that are small
enough for toddlers aren’t going to be a very good investment. Not only will they be outgrown quickly, but
toddlers aren’t as likely to engage in activities that require them to sit still for long periods of time.
If you do choose a table and chair set for your toddler, stick with the most inexpensive model and consider
one that has age-appropriate activities built into it.
-
Most regular sets are recommended for ages two to eight. Even though they
may be a little bit big for a two year old, this size will last you longer and make a better
investment.
-
Don’t choose a set that has cartoon characters or something that is more
appropriate for a certain age. You want them to feel comfortable entertaining their friends at their table
until they have outgrown it physically, not until the next fad comes along.
-
Consider a natural wood set that will go with any room. There are also
some that are designed like formal dining tables but a simpler style is more apt to be used for many
different purposes.
-
Look for one that has at least one drawer underneath for storage space. If
children know where to look for their markers and crayons, they will use them more frequently.
Remember, the most important play that children from two to eight will enjoy is
that which requires them to use their imagination. You will be amazed at what a flat tabletop and a “just my size”
chair can lead to!
